About This Tour

Cambridge Bespoke is the right call when none of the standard tours quite fit, or when you are bringing a group with a specific reason for being in Cambridge. Corporate offsites, French inbound DMC programmes, language school cultural days, family milestones, photography workshops, special-interest societies. The framework stays the same (private, public routes, English or French, a guide with 27 years in the city). Everything else is built around you.

How It Works

  1. Tell us about your group. Size, interests, language, any access needs, and what brings you to Cambridge. A short email is usually enough.
  2. We come back with a route. Sometimes one option, sometimes two so you can pick. We will flag anything seasonal or logistical worth knowing.
  3. You confirm a date. A 30% deposit secures the booking; the balance is due seven days before the tour.
  4. We walk the city together. On the day, the route adapts to weather, crowds, and what your group actually wants to spend time on.

Who Books This Tour

  • Tour operators and DMCs (English and French inbound) building Cambridge into a wider UK itinerary
  • Corporate event planners running a half-day for a visiting team
  • Language schools wanting English or French listening practice in context
  • Universities, alumni associations, special-interest societies
  • Families marking a milestone (a graduation, an anniversary, a milestone birthday)
  • Photographers wanting a longer route with photo-tour integration

Sample Themes We Have Built

  • A four-hour science-and-cycling day for a visiting biotech team
  • A bilingual Cambridge-and-Ely day for a French inbound familiarisation trip
  • A six-hour university-day for parents of incoming students
  • A half-day “Cambridge in twenty objects” for a society of museum curators
  • A morning bespoke photo-walk for a couple’s tenth anniversary
  • A two-day Cambridge-and-the-Fens programme for a French art history society

A Note on College Access

⚠️ Cambridge’s colleges are private institutions. Bespoke tours follow public streets, paths, and riverside routes throughout. All college buildings are viewed from public vantage points. No entry fees, no photography restrictions, no access limitations. If your group has a specific college connection (an alumnus host, a society arrangement) we can build the route around it, but college entry is your group’s responsibility, not ours.

Tour Flexibility

💡 Bespoke tours are designed live, around your group. Routes, stories, and stops are built in advance and adapted on the day to weather, local events, and what your group actually responds to. This is the central reason to book bespoke rather than off-the-shelf. A guide who reads the room beats a guide reading a script.

Frequently Asked Questions

The price is per group, so two people is fine and so is twenty-five. Above twenty-five we usually split into two parallel groups with a second guide, which keeps the experience properly personal. For groups of fifty or more we run a short scoping call first to design the right format.

For a half-day bespoke, two weeks is comfortable. For a full-day or multi-day programme, four to six weeks is better, especially around graduation week (late June to mid-July) and the Christmas market period. We can sometimes accommodate shorter notice; ask.

Yes. Jean-Luc Benazet is a native French speaker with 27 years guiding in Cambridge. The full bespoke walk runs in French at the same price tiers. Bilingual mixed groups also work: we can switch between the two languages naturally, or alternate by stop.

Yes. We regularly build routes that include Grantchester (a two-hour riverside walk south), the American Cemetery at Madingley, Ely Cathedral (a full-day add-on), and the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. Transport between sites is on the group; we can recommend operators.

Both. We work with a trusted punting operator for chauffeured river trips, and we can fold a professional photography session into any bespoke route. The combined photo-and-walk format is our signature product and works beautifully for milestone family days and tour operator differentiation.

Yes. We work regularly with English and French inbound operators and DMCs. Trade terms include commission on referred clients, B2B invoicing, blocked-out availability for repeat programmes, and bespoke route design for recurring itineraries. Email us with your operator details and we will send the trade pack.

A 30% non-refundable deposit secures the booking. The balance is due seven days before the tour. Cancellation more than 14 days before the tour: deposit only. Cancellation 7 to 14 days before: 50% of the total. Cancellation within 7 days: 100%. Weather is never a cancellation; we walk in light rain and reschedule only for severe weather warnings.

Cambridge city centre is mostly flat and pedestrianised, which makes most bespoke routes suitable for visitors with limited mobility. If your group includes anyone with specific access needs (wheelchair use, hearing or vision support, autism-friendly pacing), please tell us when you enquire and we will design the route accordingly. We have run successful bespoke walks for groups with a wide range of access needs.
