LOCAL RECOMMENDATIONS

Good places.
A local connection.

A small selection of useful stops for your Cambridge visit, with room for the independent places that make the city feel like itself.

The Oak Bistro in Cambridge

Four places we wholeheartedly recommend.

These are personal recommendations from Cambridge Tours. Choose the mood that suits your day, and book directly with the venue.

01 / CAMBRIDGE

The Geldart

A welcoming backstreet pub with real ales, home-cooked food, hot-rock dishes and live music. A lovely choice when you want a relaxed evening with a little Cambridge character.

02 / LENSFIELD ROAD

The Oak Bistro

An independent bistro serving British and European dishes, with a courtyard for dining outside when the weather is kind. One of our wholehearted recommendations for a meal in the city.

03 / FEN DITTON

Ancient Shepherds by Mark Poynton

A restaurant with rooms in Fen Ditton, centred on tasting menus. Make time for the meal itself, and discuss any dietary requirements directly with the restaurant before booking.

04 / GRANTCHESTER

The Rupert Brooke

A brasserie and bar in Grantchester, worth including when your visit takes you beyond the city centre. We wholeheartedly recommend it for a meal as part of a day in the village.

A few more places to keep in mind.

Yippee Noodles · A casual noodle stop on King Street.

The Orator · Food and drinks at the Cambridge Union.

The Plough, Coton · A village pub option outside the city.

The Tiffin Truck · Indian food on Regent Street.

The Pint Shop · Beer and food on Peas Hill.

Al Casbah · North African cooking on Mill Road.

A little Cambridge to take with you.

We are developing a postcard scheme with places and organisations that welcome visitors. The idea is simple: a Cambridge image to keep, and a way to discover the city with our free self-guided resources.

If your café, hotel or organisation would like to offer postcards to visitors, please get in touch. Participating locations will be listed once arrangements are confirmed.
